    Hi

My friend asked me to check his compaq nx6110 battery.

His battery indecates in Windows as fully charger, but as soon as I remove the power supply his laptop goes in standby. If I push the power button again, while the charger is still unplug, Windows get back to live. At this moment windows will indecate that the remaining chage is 0%.

What I don't understand is the battery can be used between 2 to 3 hours when Windows indecates that the remaining charge is 0%.

Continue using your battery after 0% until you fully drain the battery. That means when you press the power button, nothing will respond.

    Then recharge your battery.

I charged and fully discharged the battery couple of times, and its the same. I mean Windows/Rmclock doesn't read the level of the battery correctly.

Do you have ACPI driver installed?

THere might be a possiblility that the EC on your battery is partially broken.

I know that this issue is related to the battery and not to the OS, drivers or ACPI, because we tried this battery in a different laptop and Windows still can't read the level of this battery correctly.

    P.S. What's EC?

Does the BIOS include a battery calibration option. This should be able to reset the capacity data which, I believe, is stored on the battery itself.

unfortunately no calibration options in the bios. So far I've tried the following:

    1) fully charging and discharging the battery in Windows

    2) fully charging and discharging the battery in Windows safe mode

    3) fully charging and discharging the battery in Bios screen

no improvement. As soon as I unplug the charger Windows go in stand-by when the battery is fully charged. Pushing the power button will bring Windows back to live and the battery can then be used for 2 to 3 hours.

When the battery is not fully chartged, Windows doesn't go in stand-by.
