Odd, it doesn't seem to multi task as well as expected. So far, with very few programs open, and mostly basic ones, I've had AIM crash on me twice. Once I was playing Black and White 2 and that crashed on me (after about three-four hours of play though), and sometimes when I'm going ot save the game then quit, B&W 2 will freeze for a minute or so.

Could it just be that I need to update the video card driver or something? I don't get it.

ur using a raid config i hear that using raid stripping(is that raid 0 or 1...) or mirroring can cause errors like that.... however... it may just be a bad driver or not updated driver.. why dont you try updating all your drivers... and see if that works... your did however run a game for 24 hours... that not exactly recommended but should work with on such a system as yours :D

Just cuz things crash, doesnt mean that the processor is not performing to its full capability. It could very well be sofware/driver problems. But if u have trouble multitasking, and see slowdowns, then yes u can say that the x2 sucks at being a dual core.

I gurantee u that software problems would cause a 5GHz Conroe/Merom system to crash programs.

If you haven't done so already, go to AMD's Web site, download, and install their dual-core optimizer. Some applications have a hard time running on the X2, and this software is supposed to address a lot of those issues.

    I didn't play it for 24 hours straight. <_<

I just got the system and have been testing it, using it all the time to learn about its performance more. It's only been like a week or two. I thought Sager updated all the drivers when i got it. I guess I'll update them all then.

Hmm... well I have a similar issue on my A64-X2 4400+ powered desktop (Asus A8R-MVP, 2 GB OCZ Plat DDR400, ATI Radeon X1800XT 512, 250 GB WD 7200/16/SATA2). I have all of the latest AMD drivers, patches, etc. installed.

It's fast, but for simple multitasking, it sometimes freezes up for a bit. My old P4 2.8C / Asus P4P800-D / R9800 Pro box feels more comfortable multitasking .

'Nuff said. It's not the processor that is the problem - it's the software. Ditch AIM in favor of Trillian, Gaim, or an alternative third-party program. Games can crash on any system, so look for patches/updates for it.

I had the opportunity to test an Athlon X2 processor in the Alienware m7700, and it was a fantastic multitasker.

So, because something in your computer crashes, you assume your CPU can't multitask? Now that's an interesting logic... ;)

No, seriously, that has nothing to do with multitasking whatsoever. It just means there's something wrong somewhere... No more, no less. :)

Have you overclocked *anything*? How much of the hardware is new?
And what kind of crashes do you get?

well it doesnt seem like the x2 is fairing well. Ths isnt the only person complaining about the x2.

But as far as the application/game goes, bad code is bad code no matter what hardware you are using.
