does anyone here have a hi-grade 8615 GTK? why i'm asking this is because my one runs quiet hot (72C!) so i was wondering if anyone else with the same laptop has the same problem. and what could be making it so hot. and yes i've tried cleaning my fan. ;)

Tried re-applying thermal paste? If you have cleaned out the fans properly then that what be my next course of action. The goop that OEM's slap on there sucks, generally.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a person here who owns the same notebook. Even a quick Google Search of your model number doesn't turn out too much in the popularity department.

Pretty much anywhere where you see dust near the heatsink. It's not good stuff to have in there. Be careful when cleaning PCB's and other stuff though.

There should be some in depth guides on the internet on how to apply thermal paste (or reapply). ICD 7 is a good thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5 is pretty average, but the norm, and apparently something from Shin Etsu is pretty good as well (I've heard some people claim they are the best of the best, but they come at a price).

That notebook is really easy to clean as it has a massive removable panel on the bottom, I even replaced the processor for a dual core though it.

If once you remove the bottom panel and blow out the heatsink fins and check that the fan is working correctly, try replacing the cpu paste it`s very easy to do on the 8615, see my previous post below.

You can buy an antistatic strap of ebay for a few $ , I bought one a couple of years ago and i have not used it yet.

I normal just make sure i have bare arms no woolly jumpers or nylon clothing for the static build up on, and just touch something that is grounded to get rid of any static charge you might have, like touching a bare metal water tap/faucet or water pipes.

What processor do you have in your 8615 , a lot of people upgrade the celeron 1.6mhz with an T2050 1.6mhz, I did the upgrade and it was an easy swap, you can buy them on ebay for under £15

    Also never used anti-static gloves.

It`s a simple job to replace the thermal paste , just make sure that your screwdriver fits the screws perfect as you don't want a stripped screw on the cpu.

All you need to do it`s a few years since.

Remove the screws on the bottom of the notebook cover.

Then remove the screws on the cpu, be careful and make sure you screw driver fits perfect.

Then remove the power cable on the fan, then remove the screws on the fan, then the whole fan and cooling system including the cpu heatsink should be able to be removed, but be careful.

Then clean out the cooling system of any dust, remove the old paste from the cpu and the cpu heatsink "there cold be a thermal pad" if so you might have to use a new pad as the gap between the heatsink and the cpu might be to big and thermal paste will not work, but paste worked fine on mine, with some tissue, do not touch with you fingers as you dont want oil on them.

put a grain of rice size of thermal paste on the cpu, you can spread it out first if you want , then fit the cooling system in place and lower the heatsink on the cpu and fit the screws.

Then re-fit the fan and screws and remember to re-connect the fan power cable.

Then you can refit the bottom cover.

When you power up the notebook listen for the fan, if it is not turning shut down the notebook and check the connection.

If the fan is running at max speed, it is likely that the heatsink is not in contact with the cpu and the cpu is overheating, shut down the notebook, it might shut-down automatic due to overheating.

If you get into windows download/run hwmonitor and check you temps.

"THE MAIN THING IS NEVER FORCE ANYTHING, JUST TAKE YOUR TIME"

There are lots of guides on how to replace them paste in your notebook.

    ok so two more questions.
1: whats is the best safety precautions in your opinion?
2: did you have a SONY CD-RW CRX850E in your 8615 GTK and if so did you have any problems with yours? the reason i'm asking this is because my one doesn't seem to burn cd's.

every time i try to burn a cd it says it's burned successfully but when you look at the cd in windows explorer it's empty and if you try to burn a bootable cd it doesn't boot. i've tried different iso images, burning software, i've even tried it in linux but still won't work.

also sometimes it won't recognize other cd's / dvd's when you put them in.

I have had literally 10+ different notebooks since i had the 8615 and i cannot remmember what dvd-rw it had in, but it seemed to work ok burning cd/dvd

Have you checked to see if you get a newer firmware for it, or even buy a new dvd-rw they don't last forever.

ahh,,, ok. just wondered thats all. i did try to see if it had any firmware but i couldn't find any. i might try again though. one more question: how does the fan cable actually come out? i mean what type of connector is it and how do you actually unplug it?
sorry if i'm being a pain but i'm new to dealing with the insides of computers. :)

You have too remove the cpu/heatsink screws , and then the fan screw there should be 2 or 3 around it, then disconnect the fan power cable from the white socket , it is in 2 parts you just pull the top part off without damaging it.

Start lifting at the cpu end and slowly wiggle the heatpipe/heatsink as you pull and the cooling system should just pull out, but be careful and make sure you have removed all the fan screws.
