    Is there a big difference between "AMD Turion(TM) 64 Mobile MK-36 (2.0 GHz/512KB)" and "AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-52(1.6GHz/1MB) "? If i don't want to upgrade to vista ever, do i even need the dual core?Thanks in advance

You don't need a dual core even for Vista sake, period. Dual core won't speed up your vista but a better GPU will do.

The big difference between MK-36 and TL-52 is: MK-36 is faster than TL-52 in some sense. Because its faster clock. You will find <20% of time that TL-52 perform better than MK-36 when you are running two tasks.

MK-36 should be slightly slower than ML-37. You can compare TL-52 and TL-37/40 to get where it stand.

Dual core is really good for multitasking though. There really isn't a reason not to get a dual core machine at this point in the game.

You don't need it, but you should want it.

So it's better to get a MK-36 if i don't want to watch movie, play game and using word at the same time? :D

You should be OK for watching movie or even HD movie while you are typing. But not scanning virus while you are playing games. I doubt whoever do that quite often in their life.

night_2004 was right, for dual core, you don't need it, but you should want it. Next year you should want quad core, or octal core.

Is a slightly faster laptop worth $100 to you?

If I had the cash I'd pay £50 for a Core Duo over something like a Pentium-M, unfortunately the UK laptop market doesn't quite work like that!

I don't know how faster from core solo 1.86G to core 2 duo 1.73G for $100 increase. But I don't think TL-56 is noticable faster than MK-36. Probably C2D is faster just because of new design. But AMD is not this case.

    2Ghz vs 1.6Ghz dual core ($100 more).

I personally would choose single core because it will feel faster in most things you do. Only multi-threaded (not multitasking) apps will the 1.6ghz dual core win. Multi-tasking gains are much much less.
