Are hard drive upgrades easy for this laptop? I'm looking at an xps m1530 from the outlet, it is a rather good buy, but it only has a 120 gig HD. I would like to buy it, but upgrade the hard drive if I can.

Yes it is very easy to upgrade. Your laptop can support any 9.5mm thick 2.5" sata harddrive.
Do not listen to his speed comment in the video. The 160gb 7200 drive is not all that fast.
If you want a larger capacity drive I would recommend getting a 320gb 5400rpm drive from hitachi/wd/samsung. Each of these drives is able to maintain 53mb/sec, which is very fast for a laptop harddrive.
The only faster drives are the 250gb and 320gb 7200rpm drives but they are much more expensive.
Please keep in mind that a 320gb 5400rpm drive = a 200gb 7200rpm drive in performance and speed.

If you know how to use a screw driver and know how to play with Legos you can do. And as K-T pointed out 7200 in and of itself does not determine performance. Larger (high density) slower (5400) HDD's can overcome some of the performance issues.

K-Tron and powerpack are correct,, easyist laptop upgrade you can do,, and those new high density drives like the 320 gig 5400 models show some impressive benchmarks for 5400rpm drives,,,

use the search feature,, there are some great HDD replacement threads floating around.... JohnR has posted a great step-by-step somewhere this month... it's too late for me to search

    good luck,
