Ummm.... yes? It could be either. Depends on what manufacturer you get it from. A screen of any size can have any finish.

The screen face can be finished as matte, glossy, and super-glossy. It all depends on if the manufacturer of the screen itself (not the computer builder) offers that as an option. Most builders will sing their own praises when offering the glossy screen since it costs more and will 'look better'. If it doesn't say so, I'd assume matte, and be shocked at glossy.

EDIT: written while Snow_fox was posting! I checked in on some reviews for that, and from what I've seen it looks like it's matte, albeit with some special coating that allows for 'wide viewing angle' or a bigger 'sweet spot' that lets you see all of the screen clearly from more severe viewing angles.

The nc8340 has a matte (non-glossy) screen. A lot of the business class laptops do not offer glossy screens.

    Thx guys...

I woulda probable been happy either way.. if it was normal then I don't have to worry about glare and getting distracted looking at reflections (I have a short attention span).

If it was glossy then I'd have had prettier colors lol.

I just had to have an idea of what to expect.

I would recommend the glossy screen only if you are not in a high backlite enviorment, I payed the extra $25 and I like it becuase I play lots of game, do LOTS of audio and video editing, and I also use my notebook as a 720p HDTV because I can. If you do, be warned, that it will reflect lots of light back at you, so you can not see outside, or in a room with lots of backlighting.
