If I run my notebook on AC Adaptor power with the battery taken out, would it make the notebook any more susceptible to current surges, etc? Read somewhere that it might spoil the notebook since it was designed to run with the battery. However, i figure with the technology currently, the battery removal should not pose a problem.

No point in putting in the battery in my case as it would be on the desk 99% of the time.

    Any views on this? :)

i would leave it in only because if there is a loss of power, it would instantly crash. there's also the matter of exposing the battery compartment/battery contacts to dust and the "elements". but in terms of something technically 'good' or 'bad' it really doesn't matter.

note that according to batteryuniversity.com, the recommended storage tips are that you store at 40% charge in a cool place.

    thanks for the quick response.

I see no point in running down the battery everytime i use the note book :)

if you are plugged in on AC then it does not use the battery. the battery just sits there.

for my thinkpad x30, when my batt is in and notebook on AC power. It keeps it on charge at 100% all the time, so i presume that the batt is in the charging cycle.

Is the battery charging lite on? My NB shows charging in Everest280, but no indicator lite, NHC shows 0 watts charge rate.

Can main batteries be swapped out safely while AC power is on & NB/LT operating? I have 2 A42-M7 [Asus 70-N9Q181100] :D .

drumfu- If we stored batteries @ 40% in cool place, how do we safely stop charge? Or do we sit in a fridge  ?

once it hits 100%, the charging stops. But since the battery discharges by itself irregardless of usage, the moment it drops to 99%, doesn't the charging begin again? *confused*

oh yes, is it safe to remove the battery(after charging) directly when the notebook is on AC power?

Or is it better to shutdown the notebook first, remove the battery then restart the notebook?

All batteries self discharge because of the chemical reaction happening inside of them, but Li-Ion batteries are the slowest to do so. It takes about four months for a fully charged Li-ion batter to self discharge, but if you keep your batteries in a cooler place it will take longer (like in a fridge)

if you want to store your battery at about 40% charge, remove it when it reads 40%, and stick it somewhere cool. the reactions slow in the cold, which is why car batteries die in the winter in cold places. You can remove it with the laptop on. With my T43, you can set what the battery drops to before it recharges, so it is not constantly recharging the smallest drop. dunno if other brands offer this.
