Ok, basically will use this laptop everday for bulk web browsing and word/ messenger + ocassionally playing css or dod:s, Was wondering how this laptop would go I would like to play css/dods on low/med settings is fine.

    Specs:

    -HP dv2600 Verve

    -T8300 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo 800mhz/3mb l2 cache

    -4GB Dual Channel Kingston DDR2 667mhz ram

    -8400m GS 128mb Graphics Card

    -14.1" WXGA 1280x800 Screen

    -6 Cell Battery

    -Vista Home Premium

    And Most other regular specs

SO Yer how will it go in day to day tasks will it be fast compared to my old P4 2.8 Ghz Desktop? What kind of FPS can i expect on low/med settings in css/dods?

For your browsing, productivity and chatting, this will be a beast.

If you're only going to game casually then I doubt that there will be any problem with that setup.

Bear in mind though that Vista Home Premium 32bit (which is what HP supplies as standard) can only address (use) around 3.2GB of RAM so it might be worth saving some money and only specifying 3GB.

The dual-core processor really represents 2x 2.4GHz (totalling 4.8GHz) so you should see a substantial improvement over that older Pentium 4 desktop. As for frame rates I can't tell on that one - I'd explore CNET for some gaming benchmarks.

You'll love the Verve - I've used one for a week and it was a real blast - a good looking notebook as well as being very useful for multitasking and light gaming.

    Good luck!

that rig will blow away your pentium 4 based desktop. However gaming may be a big slowdown on that 8400GS. It is a very weak graphics card, and I am not so sure how it will play those games. You may want to check out the gaming section, to see if any otehr members are playing those games on their 8400GS cards.

Otherwise it is a very nice system, you did not mention what harddrive you are getting.
I recommend you getting a harddrive which is at least 250gb at 5400rpm, or a 160gb 7200rpm drive. I state this because the harddrive is usually the slowdown of the system, so getting a drive which is equal to or greater than the drives mentioned, will give you great performance and quick load times.

8400m GS is a little below X1600. It still may work OK.
