I'm upgrading the RAM on a newly purchased 15.4" Macbook Pro (2.4Ghz).

I noticed on Newegg.com that G.Skill offers a PC2-6400 that is advertised to work on " Apple Notebooks".

A brief discussion on the Apple forum said they called Crucial to ask the same questions and someone told him it wouldn't work.

    So what's the TRUE story?

    Will it work?

....If not, then will PC2-5300 Cas4 Latency Ram be worth the extra $23 over Cas5 PC2-5300 running something intensive like VMWare Fusion?

Get the cheapest RAM. non-Motevina Intel chipsets, like what is in your PC, top out at 667MHz RAM speeds.

And no, the decreased CAS latency will not be worth it.

Basically the speed used is the module with the slowest frequency. If you have one PC2-6400 and one PC2-5300, the speed of the 5300 will be used. Of course, speed is also dependent on what the motherboard run's at as well. If the motherboard is the slowest, the memory modules will run at the motherboard's speed.

It is actually the slowest frequency of the two RAM modules and the chipset's RAM interface. So you are limited to 667MHz until the Apple refresh notebooks show up.
