I have 2x256 sticks in my IBM T30. I noticed that it started to read only 256. At first i assumed that it was a memory stick. I swapped out the memory with 2 other pieces and it still ahd the same problem. I was about to give up when i decided to physicaly push on the memory and it work! On bootup, if i hold down the memory it reads 512Mb, and it stays reading that 512 even after releaseing my hold on it. If I dont hold it in wile botting it says 256 and never changes. The wierd thing is the fast that the memory works fine after being released as long as i hold onto it at boot up. I would think when i let go, it would crash, or not be seen. Anyone else have this wierd fluke, and has anyone figured out how to repair it. Ive tryed taping it down, put tape inbetween the cover and the memory and all sorts of quick fixes. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Im guessing its a bad memory slot, because it seems that w/o u holding it, the memory doesnt make a clean connection and thus doesnt get recognized as being installed.

why dont you replace the notebook? I would assume warranty is still in place?

No, not necesarily...its not making the connection right on its own, and it needs external support to go all the way in aka ur hand.

I would call ibm if its still under warranty, if not I would take it to a local computer hardware repair shop and have them lookit. I doubt u can replace a memory slot urself, if u even found a part.
