    Why are there no Vista driver for X1700?

    there is a vista driver on the ATi site for everything except for the x1700, why is this? i really want to update my driver but it looks impossible at this stage

    You should go for Catalyst Mobility, not the desktop Catalyst.

    Seems you're right,also,if you check the manufactures list,you can find Arima,Clevo,... but no ASUS (I believe you have an ASUS V1Jp, right?)

    I'm still waiting for a proper X1700 driver for XP which includes working PowerPlay! Do I blame Samsung or ATI for this omission.

    You blame ATI then spend a few minutes editing the INFs yourself to add support.

    I don't think it's as easy as this or the support would have been added instantly.Just as I said the current driver has no support for ASUS (it has for Clevo and some other notebook makers).

    I got bored with editing the .inf files and then discovering that there was still no sign of PowerPlay. I find this annoying since the X1700 is meant to be a lower power version of the X1600.

    No sign of powerplay? It works for me, at least as far as I can tell by observing the clock speeds on AC vs on battery.
