I'm going to upgrade m thinkpad w510 with some aftermarket memory, thinkpad w510 has 4 ram slots, I'm aiming at total of 8 gb ram.

4*2gb ram is much cheaper than 2*4gb, but I'm still unsure which one to use.

I'm using those ram with intel qc i7 920m.

Either of those are fine... Personally I've never had a problem out of either brand you listed..

I'd go with the second option, unless you plan to upgrade to 16 GB in the future and would like to plan for just buying another 2x 4 GB sticks instead of buying 4x 4 GB sticks to replace the 4x 2 GB sticks you'd buy now. Even then, there's a reasonable chance that unless you plan to upgrade to 16 GB in the next year or 2, prices for 4 GB sticks will come down in the future anyway.
