Which lenovo laptops have a sim card slot? Also, where can you check? I doesn't say on their website, and reviews rarely mention them. Thanks.

Anything that has WWAN capabilities should have a SIM card slot, so most Thinkpad models if configured with a WWAN adapter (probably without).

Is it the WWAN adapter that allows the laptop to receive the signal? Thanks! I know a lot of laptops come with the slot, but they are just placeholders and don't actually have the adapter.

The adapter contains the hardware necessary to send and receive the signal, so yeah. Some notebooks have the mPCI-E slot that has no adapter, so you could add one and a SIM card, but some smaller devices like the Thinkpad Tablet 2 for example have it soldered on the motherboard, so be careful with ultrabooks that include WWAN, you may not be able to add an adapter to it if you don't order a config with one.

Usually you have to configure it with your notebook, like the Gobi chip, or if you want one with a major carrier, you need to buy it up front. Most consumer notebooks don't come with WWAN slots, mostly gaming laptops (even this is lessening) and business class computers.
