The 8600M GT DDR2/GDDR3, is better than the 9300M G/GS.

    Welcome to nbr,

the 8600M Gt is a much better graphics card in terms of graphics power, but the 9300GS is also a good card. The 9300Gs is good because it does not have the core leakage problems which the 8600M Gt has.

What laptop are you looking at?
and what are you looking to use the laptop for? games?

If you are interested in games, the the 8600GT the a better one, else it would be better if you consider sth else.

    I was looking at a Acer 5920

It had 2 gigs of Ram and the 8600Gt

and the other one was a 5520 which had 4 gigs and the 9300g

I guess im gonna use it mostly for games.

if you are going to be mostly using it for games, than go with the 8600mGt, it is much faster than the 9300GS.
You may want to look into the Dell Inspiron/Studio, or the Vostro series, cause they will give you the option for a better graphics card from ATI or nVidia.
The Studio 15/17 are great choices for budget systems.

How much better is the 8600 over the 9300?

I mean, would the extra ram on the laptop help the 9300 catch up?

No. 9300M GS has a 64bit bus, and is therefore a TON slower than 8600m GT, especially if the 8600m GT is GDDR3.
If it's a gaming machine, get 8600m GT and screw the 2gb ram. The 9300M GS only uses 128mb Vram, whereas the 8600m GT uses 256mb.

    Hi.

Be careful as 8600m GT can come with GDDR2 or GDDR3 memory , get the GDDR3 version!

Where are you buying from, and what part of the world are you in? My grandmother was going to send me that exact same laptop, and at the time it was around 1000 Euros. If you tell me where you might purchase the notebook from, maybe I can tell you what the best gaming performance options would be for the 800 Euros?
