I'm a little lost...I have an opportunity to get a used Alienware Area-51 laptop to replace my crappy old Sony Vaio. The thing is that the Area 51's gpu is dead (Nvidia FX family...read Chazzman's GPU comparison info so I'm pretty sure that the GPU is faulty) and I am having a hard time finding where to get an upgrade.

I've built a few desktops, and I'm fairly confident that I can handle the work involved if only I can find where to purchase replacement parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, this forum rocks!!

Is the GPU removable and not soldered like older laptops? Check this forum and the AW section here also. Check eBay and Google like crazy. When all else fails, call ... Alienware.

Most likely you will have to replace the Mobo which is an expensive proposition.
