For gaming what combination of cpu power and GPU power the the best. What I mean is given a GPU how do you find the right proccessor?

What is confusing me is that Gateway was offering a 1.83GHz cpu but with a 8800 GPU. With that CPU is all of the GPU being used? Wont the cpu still limit what games you can even play?

For a general rule where is the balance?

    example
8800GPU would need to have xGHz to use fully
8700GPU would need to have xGHz to use fully

    where is the balance?

And vise versa is there a point when the GPU is so weak the CPU is not used fully

It really depends on way too many factors. Like RTS games are mainly dependent on the processor...and FPS with thick folaige and graphics are really dependant on the GPU...It also is varied depending on the Resolution you play at. There are too many factors to decide unless you have a specific game and resolution to decide.

Well....most games have their recommended requirements as - CPU 2.0-2.2GHz Core 2 Duo....

So one should be fine even with a T8300, or a T9500..to max out the santa rosa notebooks....or even go for
    the X-series..!! :D

That CPU will be he bottleneck with that GPU. If you wan to take full advantage of the GPU take angad's advice. There is a person on this forum who has a 1.83GHz CPU with an 8800M, and that person is struggling with games.
