I hear that the ULV i7 processors, 620UM, 620UE and 640UM as well as the ULV i5 processor, 520UM, have already launched during CES 2010.

I don't believe I have seen any laptops announced with these processors however. I'm expecting current CULV notebooks to be refreshed with this new technology such as the Asus UL series.

Does anyone have an idea of when we can expect such announcements or have some already been announced not to my knowledge? Thanks.

Later this year, since Core 2 Duo culv is going strong and Intel is adding even more culv Core 2 Duo's in the summer. Though now there are some Core i7 ulv models popping up like the Asus UL30JT and a Fujitsu.

Thanks, but I am not looking for laptops with the regular voltage new Intel "i" processors. I've already seen plenty of these.

I'm looking for ones using the low or ultra-low voltage versions of these chips, just like there are currently ultra-portable and ultra-thin notebooks that use ultra-low voltage versions of the Core 2 Duo processor like the Asus UL series, Acer Timeline series, Macbook Air, etc. I don't believe these exist on the market just yet and am curious of when we should expect their arrival.

I especially would like to see these in ultraportable notebooks with smaller than 12" screens.

Because the i7 can use Turbo Boost to over-clock itself depending on its thermal requirements at the time, while the i3 is stuck at its base speed.

    Cheers!

I7 has turbo, the i3 doesn't. Check the respective max clock to make a little more sense of it. Plus the i7 is faster per clock cycle than the i3 anyways.

we will see core i3/5/7 ULV laptops towards the end of the year when intel phases out the core 2 duo ULV processors...

Yup, right as Intel gets ready to introduce Sandy Bridge in Q1 2011.

Sucks that it will take so long.

That is a shame. But I am not too surprised since in the past, the ULV versions of the processors and laptops always came out months after the regular voltage versions. I was hoping that would change this time around. :(

Excellent question! I was just thinking about this last night. Since I'm now in the market for a new notebook, I too would like to know this. :)

Edit: After reading the thread, I see there appears to be nothing in the works till the end of the year. What a shame indeed. :(

Aren't the CPUs out already? I mean its listed on the Intel page.

Specialized CPUs like ULV and MP versions take extra time to validate them, which is why it takes longer to come out.

    damn

I was hoping that this summer they would have ULV's w/ i5s. I don't want to get a ULV C2D and then right after they release the Arrandale ULVs.

We will this summer, its just that they will likely cost a premium over the C2D culv's which will still be selling at the same time. Right now Asus is already preparing its Core i7 620UM and 640UM UL30JT (with Nvidia graphics) for release in a couple weeks, and it will cost a between $800-$1K.

ULV takes a lot more work to make stable than regular voltage cores. It takes refinement in process and higher yields that are functional at lower than standard voltages. ULV will ALWAYS lag behind the "standard" voltage parts due to that.

Acer already is preparing an 1830t with the Core i3-330UM for sale.

Or maybe its that Intel wants to get the higher selling standard voltage processors out first?
