I know there's the sager np9262 quad but that's a desktop processor, unless I'm wrong. When does the laptop version of the Intel Core 2 Quad CPU release (centrino or whatever its called) ? & so when do we expect sager np5793 to arrive ?

I thought Quad Core for laptops are due in mid '08. Only one I heard of so far was an Extreme Edition QX9300. Get ready for some pain in your wallet if you want one. :)

Hmmm... and I thought it was due in under a month. So I'll pass, because even if it arrives before I get a laptop, it would prolly cost s**t load. Thanks!

Well, not much use for it now. Even dual core doesn't get used that much. No app really requires it yet.
If you must have quad core wait a bit. They release the extreme edition first maybe followed by a more affordable regular version.

Would this "extreme edition" be part of the penryn processors using the santa rosa platform?

I can't wait anyway, so I'll go ahead with the Core 2 Duo, on Sager NP5792.

q6600 is the quad core for a laptop, but you need a laptop that uses a desktop cpu. So the models that use it are a Sager (one of the sager guys need to tell you the model) and also there have been claims that the Asus c90s can use them but nobody on our forums has actually done it to my knowledge.

It has its uses, I mean its not going to really give you any benefit in games, but encoding and rendering it should fly compared to a current dual core.

I bet my c90s can use one, but I dont have one to test. If somebody has a spare quad core cpu laying around I will be more than happy to test it out.

Sometime in Q3 2008 the QX9300 is being released. It'll be 2.53 GHz IIRC, so really fast, but will cost at least $1000 each. Power usage will be 45 Watts. I'm guessing about six months after that for one with a somewhat reasonable price, maybe $316-$348-ish for a 2.00 GHz quad core. But that's purely speculative.

Mid 08 for mobile quads, but the prices are among the worst you`ll see.
Over 900$ for a 2.5 Quad is ****ing ridiculous
