    Hello there,

Can anyone give me their opinion on the VGN-TZ295N with 64gb SSD? I have a chance to buy it for $700.

I know its an older laptop, but I'm looking for something under 3lbs and fast. Is the 11" screen noticebly harder to read than a 13.3? How does it compare to a netbook, atom dual core etc.

How does the speed compare to an i3, as I can get a toshiba R705 from best buy for $750. Its 3.2lbs and has 4megs of memory plus an i3 processor.

Thanks for your opinion! I was reading through the thread, and the TZ295N seems like a great machine. Just wondering how it stands up at this point in time to other current laptops.

I moved this for you because i think you'll get more responses in the hardware forum about the hardware and making a comparison different processors/graphic cards.
The TZ uses the ULV U7500-U7700 series of processors and the 945GMS integrated card.
I own a TT that uses the same res display and use my TT most of the time. I also own a 13.3 notebook. One thing i did find though that when i was a student was that it was more preferable for me to use my larger notebook to read and type for very long periods. Now i use my 13.3 laptop as my desktop when i demand a bit more power.

What do you actually plan to do with this laptop?

I agree with Rachel, gotta know what you do with a laptop before you can determine the specs/make/model you want because you don't have to spend a whole lot to get alot of laptop.

I just want a very light laptop to browse the net, check web emails, and take with me when I travel. I don't plan on using any intensive program. But I would like it to be fast, reliable using windows 7, long battery life, etc.

I use my laptop when I'm in bed with it resting on my chest/lap, etc.

I was thinking of ipad or netbook, but they're just too limited or under powered.

I like the toshiba R705, but at 3.2lb its still not super light, like an ipad or sony tz.

any opinions? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.

A couple of months ago i used a laptop with the same specs as the TZ, this computer had a U7600, 945GMS and a 128GB SSD. It handled everyday tasks ok but if you plan to watch HD look eleswhere. Even 720P will max this laptop out.

In passmark scores the U7500 is about the same level as the dual core atom processor N550.
    Check this site for benchmarks

I would tend to say go for the TZ if you put a priority on the screen and build.

If not an Acer 11.6 notebook can be had for less and that will provide a much better overall experience.
Amazon.com: Acer Aspire TimelineX AS1830T-3927 11.6-Inch Laptop (Black): Computer & Accessories

You can get a faster 2.5 SSD drive and make it bare to bring the weight under 3lbs.

A Dell E4200 will also give you a better all round experience than the TZ. It should also weigh about the same. It does though lack a built in webcam.

    Edited to add:
I see that later E4200's could be configured with a webcam. If you're interested in this laptop and a ebcam is important to you check the Dell outlet store.
