    Yes, overkill. But to be honest as NAND chip prices drop, they don't need the fastest NAND, and they can be really compact and more robust than a mechanical drive. Although I think you're better off buying an enclosure for an older SSD to use for storage than buying something like this.

    It most likely either has no controller, a 4+ year old controller, or something cheap the company made for external drives. This cannot be compared with internal 2.5" SATA or mSATA SSDs. It probably does not have TRIM support or many (any?) other modern SSD features. Think of it as a bigger thumb drive, similar to the 256GB Patriot Supersonic Magnum.

    520 dollars for a 256 GB SSD inside an enclosure, holy moly what a ripoff. And look at the read/write speeds. This has got to be a typo. 500 dollars you can almost buy a 1 TB 2.5" SSD..
