Welcome to NBR.
1.) How much are you willing to spend?
2.) Capacity? -
i cant really over $300
and preferably around 120gb but i can do with less. -
I'd suggest the Intel X25-M 120GB.
Newegg.com - Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH120G2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Though it may not be the fastest of the large selection of SSDs, it is one of the most reliable. -
that was actually one of the ssd's i was thinking about.
it does say its out of stock, any other sites i could order it from or maybe a retailer? -
Amazon
$274.75
Amazon.com: Intel X25-M 120 GB Solid State Drive with Internal SATA and Power Cables MLC Flash Technology, 2.5-Inch Form Factor: Electronics
Buy.com

thank you so much.
i just have one other question.
are the ocz vertex 3 or the owc mercury extreme pro 6g ssd's any good? or is the intel still the best shot? -
Their have been good reviews on the OCZ Vertex 3. I have not seen too much on the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro. If you're looking for a SATA III/6.0gb/s SSD make sure your system is compatible.
Personally; I'd stick with the Intel for reliability. It has received better reviews and has been proven worthy of your well earned bucks.
Remember: an SSD is overkill for an average user. An overkill SSD is overkill for anyone. -
allright, i think im going to stick with the intel for now, im just trying to learn how to install an ssd before i purchase one. thanks for all the info though. oh and by the way, i do own a zuneHD 32gb and im loving it ^_^
-
I've never installed an SSD before (for lack of funds) but I believe it is just like any other HDD, with the exception of installing SSD firmware. Just the other day I completed a clean install of Windows 7 on a new HDD through a bootable USB key. If you have any questions regarding the matter, feel free to PM me and I'll supply you with some links.
What sold me on the ZuneHD was the UI. Otherwise I was looking at the Cowon J3.. Still in love with my Zune. Make sure you got all the apps. They added 9 new ones just last month. -
Was Crucial really not mentioned at all?
-
+1 Crucial. Either C300 or M4, can't go wrong on either.
Avoid anything OCZ, they refuse to fix the DOA/2-week-later-DOA issues. They blame the consumer instead. Too bad it's like 20% that have these issues. OWC uses the same sketchy Sandforce Controller, Personally I'd avoid.
Another good SSD to look at is the Intel 320. Decently priced as SSD's go, you can get the 160GB for under $300 on Newegg fairly often. Like right now: $295 Newegg.com - Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW160G3K5 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) -
What ssd?
