Hey, I've been looking for a laptop for some time now and before I commit to buy one I just want to make sure I'm not going to miss out on something that I'd really want. I know you should buy a laptop when you need one, & not to wait for the next thing to come out (because you'll always be waiting)! But I'm one of those people that would regret buying something, just before some amazing feature came out. So whats have we in store for next year? Any larger capacity solid slate drives, or a price cut predicted in them? Things like that. I want to know as much as I can, also that turbo memory, will that become that common component? Really anything would be great! Thanks all

I'm planning on getting my next computer this upcoming summer. I'm waiting for the Intel's Montevina platform and Nvidia's geforce 9600m gt, I don't really care for the rest.

So pretty much other than the refresh, it doesn't really matter. I guess you could get another 20 minutes watching a DVD with the new smaller cores. I will say that you could wait, but there is always something right around the corner with computers. Now is actually a pretty good time to buy as the differences between today and the new hardware in 6 months shouldn't be too much different. Now if you waited a full year then maybe it'd make quite a difference.

Yep, all Intel graphics are integrated, and that's not slated to change anytime soon. The X4500 would be a hair better than the GeForce Go 7600, equivalent to the Go 6800, and below the Mobility Radeon 1700 and GeForce 8600 GS in performance if the 4X figure holds true (based on current 3dmark06 scores).

USB 3.0 will, in all probablity, not work with current USB 2.0 designed computers. I've tried to get USB 1.1 to work on a USB 1.0 computer, and it just doesn't work. The farthest I can get is the computer recognizing a drive was connected, but it can't actually make use of it.

Nope, you're being a little hopeful there and putting two unconnected releases together :). The 8800m will be the the Alienware mx15, a 15-inch laptop, but there's no word of it appearing in any Dell machine as yet.

I think the X4500 is for motevina chipset. Hope the GMA for cantiga chipset will be at least on par with 8600/8700M GT. It's possible, cantiga will be mass produced in 2009. They've got some time to develop it

Well dude, i don't think you would need the speed that USB 3.0 gives you until another 5 years. A laptop computer that could run your fav games in drops to the best price should be what you are waiting for.

And I feel like the USB3.0 will be useful when some parts inside the laptop itself is optical based.

Quicker USB flash drives would be nice when transferring files hundreds of MB or even more than 1 GB in size (for example, backing up the data on a 2 GB USB drive takes several minutes). I don't think faster USB drives are necessary, but they would certainly be nice.

Ever heard of a CD drive?
