Hi, actually i was having a failed mobo so today a engineer came and replaced my mobo but i noticed that while inserting ram he breaked ram latch. I wanna know what is the use of this part.

It holds the RAM in so that it doesn't fall out. If it comes out your computer will freeze.
-
I m asking about the part that i have marked i.e side of latch their is a plastic strip.

It's hard to see in your photo, so I will just guess it's there to make it easy to remove the ram.
-
For clarity, could you please circle the part that I mentioned in red in your photo. And load up a higher resolution photo if you have one.
-
Namaiki mentioned the part which is highlighted in red and i am mentioning the part which is highlighted in blue.

Hey, what happened please reply to this thread.
-
i didn't got the answer to this problem.
HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
It just holds the RAM in most likely?! If you push it in, the RAM will slide out easily. Most likely. I small piece of plastic on the side of the RAM normally wouldn't have any other use but that.
-
I think Moral Hazard is probably right and it's there to help you disengage the latch (red part).

I noticed I also have the same thing in my notebook.
Actually I see no real use for it.
I wouldn't worry to much about having it broken, unless you're still under warrenty.
If you have warrenty, I would ask for another motherboard. -
yeah but other mobo must be refurbished...right
-
Does any one knows its real use, the part i have highlighted in blue....

Is your current mobo refurbished or new?
If you have a good one now, I suggest keeping it.
But maybe just make a call and ask what they can do for you? -
sell the mobo... it still works, you just need to duktape the ram.. I would buy it.
-
I have new one but with bend camera cable connector pin and broken part of the ram latch that i have mentioned in blue.
-
will u buy it the pin is alright now.
-
I asked dell they said they need me to send my laptop to them, should i?

can you ask them what they will do to it?
It could be gone for days. -
Yeah they said the will check all the components and replace the faulty one.
-
If the ram is secure without the piece you circled blue missing (which it should be), don't bother wasting your time and money on fixing it. That piece and the clip that hold the ram in look like plastic. If that is the case, the piece that broke off is there to help prevent you from bending out the clip too far and breaking it off. If you're not a complete klutz or don't intend to mess with the memory any more, do not worry about it.
-
So u mean it is of no use?
-
To fix that one broken little piece of plastic you would have to replace the entire motherboard--again. It is good that you documented it and reported to the manufacturer but if your computer is working fine and you dont plan on replacing the ram in the future I wouldn't worry about it.
If you don't document with the manufacturer that ram slot release arm was broken by the repair tech when he replaced the mobo they can and most likely will void your warranty should you need it again before it expires. Anything physically broken inside your laptop will void your warranty. -
I like upgrading my laptop....so i think i have to go for a mobo replacement.
