I currently have a 60GB 7200RPM Hitachi drive in my ThinkPad and it is the only "bottleneck" in my system. Not in terms of performance, but in terms of capacity. I know that with desktop systems, larger, higher-density drives can be just as fast as lower-density drives with a faster platter rotation. I have absolutely no more than $100 to spend on a HDD. I see that there are some 120-160GB 5400RPM SATA drives in that price range on Newegg. Will these drives be comparable in speed to my 60GB 7200RPM since the data on them is so much more densly packed?

    Any advice?

Depending on the drive and task, 5400RPM drives are capable of matching 7200RPM drives in terms of performance.

This is a good comparison of various 2.5" drives on the market:

Wow, looking at that, the Samsung 40GB 5400RPM seems to get awfully high marks for such a generic configuration...

Well you can probably do a search for other reviews and see if the results are duplicated... if they aren't, go look at something else XD
