So upon receiving and testing my new Vostro 1500 I have determined that it exceeds my desktop in gaming performance anywhere from 3 to 4 times the performance. Because of this I'd like to hook it up to my monitor through the VGA when I play video games. I have a few questions about what I need to hook this up.

    1) Well as much as I like the keyboard and touchpad I'm going to stick with my G15 and Deathadder for gaming, both of which being USB. I also have a joystick (USB) for flying planes and such in Battlefield games and occassionally the Xbox 360 Controller for my random spurt with the NES Emulator. So also to the suggestion of another member, I need a USB port hub. Any good suggestions for it? Also does the hub connect two computers so say if I'm just going to be using my desktop I'll just hit a switch to flip the inputs over to my tower?

    2) The VGA input. Same situation, I need a switch that will allow me to switch between desktop and laptop inputs, I have no clue what to get here.

    3) Although my WiFi is great I want to make sure I'm getting the best speeds with my wired connection. Anything that will allow me to switch that as well?

    4) Finally the audio. I have a surround sound stereo system that rumbles my room with war sounds. I'd like a switch for that as well.

I think that pretty much covers what I'm looking for. If you guys have any suggestions and/or good brands for these type of products let me know.

BTW, how can I get my damned laptop to stay on when I close the lid even though its connected to an external display? i can't find anything in the BIOS.

For the lid problem...go to control panel then power options...you'll find it there :) As for LAN, your wifi router should have ethernet ports too...use those ones.

Yea its got ethernet ports, but its out in the front room and the cable runs through our attic to my room where it plugs into my desktop. Even though this owns my desktop I'm not completely finished with it so I'd like a switch or something that would switch the ethernet between my laptop and desktop. What about the other things? Does the 4-port hub have a switch on it? What should I use for my VGA problem?

The last time I saw switches like the kind you're looking for was when parallel ports were still a big deal. I've got a few for parallel and serial. I doubt anyone makes such a thing for USB, VGA, or audio lines.

Of course, I could be wrong; at the very least, I've never seen such things.

Though for ethernet, you can still get a normal ethernet switch. Oftentimes modems will have switches built into 'em. If not, those switches are pretty cheap these days.
