So basically, I don't have any idea what the difference is between the two. Both have the same specs and same 3.0 and USB powered. The only difference is the price. The price for WD is around $110 and the Seagate is $100. Please help me choose which one. Thanks

I have a seagate 1tb backup model, and it is serving me well so far. Some people prefer one backup software over the other, but i just use it as a plain drive for drag and drop storage.

Most people would recommend the Western Digital, both in terms for longevity, as well as performance. Though they're awfully comparable.

I believe Western Digital drives are listed as being manufactured in Singapore and Thailand, and Seagate drives come from Singapore. Both companies are headquartered in the state of California if I remember correctly.

I had a recent thread which debated seagate drives. The opinion there was no one company is more reliable than others.

I would thus also look at the enclosure properties before choosing an ext drive
