    Vostro 1700 CPU Upgrade

    Hello everyone, I am new to the site, and I have a Dell Vostro 1700 Notebook with the Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6 Ghz from the factory. I was looking to upgrade the processor, but I'm not sure what the maximum processor this chipset will handle is. My main concerns are of course core clock speed, and also will this chipset support 4mb L2 Cache like the Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz Merom offers? Any help on this subject is GREATLY appreciated, thank you!

    Personally, I would go with THIS processor, given your BIOS supports it.

    You've got a Socket P motherboard, most likely on the 965 chipset. Thus, you can upgrade the processor to not only Merom, but Penryn as well.
    The fact that the Vostro 1700 can come configured with the T9300 means that 2.5 GHz and 6MB of L2 cache aren't a problem, let alone 2.0 GHz and 4MB.

    Thanks you guys for the fast response, I will probably go with that processor polarix, thank you very much. I have changed numerous processors out in desktops, however I've never done it before in a laptop, is the proceedure similar?

    So I got my new T8300 in the mail today, installed it, everything went very well, seems to be working good, but CPU-Z shows it running at the same core speed as my old processor. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is?

    Hi All,

    First post so please excuse me if I have missed something during my search of the forum.

    I have a Vostro 1700, got it second hand from my brother in law a couple of month ago. It is running Vista Business, T5470 1.6MHz, with 4GB and I am finding it a bit slow, it really stuggles when running Football Manager 2009 for example. I have already taken the orginal 2GB up to 4GB ( i work for Crucial so get some good deals :p ) but my next step is to change the processor. I have seen this on eBay

    The T9300 will work in your vostro 1700.
    Just make sure that you install the latest Bios revision, to ensure support of the processor.
    Dell will offer the bios revision on their website, just enter your service code, and go to the download section. The upgrade will be under the bios tab.

    @KornDawg: Speedstep possibly?
    Load up RMClock and see if you can configure it to use the other multipliers.
