    Virtual ( Page) memory on SD card?

    I have Dell D420 and was thinking of improving it's performance by moving the page file to fast SD card. There are now 300x type cards available for quite cheap comparing to a SSD drive. Have anyone tried this option lately ?

    SD cards are slower the SSD's but faster than paging to the HD, what is your operating system and do you have a SDHC card slot?

    Windows doesn't allow you to put pagefiles onto removable media only.

    Im running WinXP Pro 32bit. Not sure if the slot supports SDHC. But I guess 4GB card for this purpose would be enough.
    Another thing - I guess SD slot is connected via USB. I could format my card to FAT32 only via Command prompt. HDTach does not see it for some reason (wanted to do some speed tests), but I have an option to move Page file to this drive.

    Now Avira complaining about some weird stuff it refers as Trojan.

    you have the optoin to but that doesn't mean Windows actually moves it there. You can try, it will let you press the "set" button all you want, it doesn't change that Windows will not put a page file on removable media.

    what windows do you use, how much ram do you have, how many processes do you run at start up, and what do you do with the computer ?

    I dont have page file, laptop runs much faster. I disable it even when I had 2GB RAM

    Im not sure if I should turn it off with only 1.5GB of RAM.
    Well I guess it aint working well on this system anyway. Might as well go for a cheap ssd off ebay

    You can move the page file to an SD card only if you have a non-usb based card reader. (an easy way to tell is by checking the device manager).

    SD card, even 300x ones is much much slower than the slowest hdd you can buy right now. Page file are optimized for HDD. An better option is to use the SD card as a cache drive since it's optimized for flash storage. E.g. vista's readyboost or use a program called eboostr.

    Putting the page file on SD will probably slow down your laptop.

    Just make sure that the proper and up-to date drivers are installed, I'm sure SD works with Xp..
