It could just be a publicity stunt, but the possibility that manufacturers might consider developing such a large laptop (even if only for a publicity stunt) is quite encouraging to those of us attempting to do the same with off the shelf desktop components.

Considering you can't really fit anything the size of a 22" monitor in less than a frame backpack (think camping or military backpack), I don't think the weight would be a relevant issue.

    Interesting,
sironin, we just need to make our's better :D

I like how Viewsonic is doing this to sell their panels. Honestly when you go to best buy, they sell viewsonic right next to the samsung panels and well samsung has a better price and a better screen, so no wonder viewsonic has not had the sales they expected.
I wonder what it will look like, probably nice cause viewsonic has tons of money and resources, which you and I do not have

Heh, well I imagine that if they wound up using a laptop processor or graphics card, ours will be better by default. Viewsonic was known for very good CRT's about a decade ago. Since then they've produced a number of promotional items, such as PDAs, Netbooks, and other Laptops in addition to their monitors.

I have to admit, I do have access to a fairly decent chunk of resources. My first build is fairly ambitious and large. Once I finish it, I can outline how to build a smaller, budget version in order to make portable desktop replacements more affordable (as long as the person in question doesn't mind a heavy/bulky laptop).

Viewsonic was pretty recognizable... in the 20th century.
