Unfortunately this problem is a little lengthy so I will try and make it as smooth as possible

I have a Sony VAIO FW 140-D. Ati 3470 Graphics with VGA and HDMI out.

Situation 1) I have a 17 inch (1280x1024) connected through VGA and a 20.1" (1680x1050) through HDMI->DVI converter. (Always worked and no troubles)

Situation 2) Have a 24 inch (1920x1080) connected through HDMI and 20.1 through VGA. (Never has worked)

Situation 3) 24 inch with HDMI->DVi and 17 with VGA. (Worked until last week)

Now first minor problem is in situation 2 it simply does not work. I connect the 24 inch display on its own and it works fine. When I add the 20.1 to the VGA, both screens go blank. No amount of unplugging or plugging in has remedied this. 1080p with HDMI-> DVI + 1680x1050 VGA does not work, both screens go blank. Any suggestions?

Pushing the 1920x1080 through VGA and the 1680x1050 through HDMI->DVI works, however the 1080p screen looks horribly fuzzy, so that's not a solution.

Second major problem is that now situation 3 simply does not work. Usually I would just plug in the 17 through VGA and the HDMI to the 24 and close the laptop, and both screen would auto adjust to old resolutions. Now I close the laptop and nothing happens. This has been working fine for a month or two and have never had this problem. I feel like the problem occurred since my last windows update, however the only things that were updated were windows defender junk, so nothing important.

The mechanism that detects when the laptop is closed still works because computer goes to sleep when I close it, etc etc.

The Fn+Shift F7 key on the laptop does not work because I am running Vista 64bit and the drivers I used to build the machine up weren't the ones they "recommended". However again, this was never a problem before.

In short it would be nice for situation 2 to work. I would LOVE to get situation 3 to work again.

In situation 3 going into display properties only allows me to extend to the HDMI monitor (never the VGA) and never allows me to choose which monitor is primary, this is greyed out and always done automatic. (sometimes after reboot its reverses which one is primary, annoying, but manageable)

Vista 64, drivers for 1080p monitor installed.

As painful and long as it is, some help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bojan
