I recently bought a VGA to Component cable and plan to use it to connect my desktop to my tv. However, after connecting them, I don't get a single on my tv. I tried changing the resolution in display properties and adjusting a host of other setting setting to no avail. D you guys have any suggestions? Thanks, :)

Unless your video card directly supports that form of cable, it will not work. Did just a bunch of fast moving lines show up on your TV?

Maybe your not "outputting" correctly. Try simply using your External Output quickey. Fn + ....

there may also be a problem inside the cable.

A problem with the cable was my first reaction too, but isn't that rather unlikely? I tried the fn+f5 combination (which is suppose to output the signal) already, but nothing happened.

Is there something specifically I should be looking for? The notebook uses a nVidia Go5600 (64Mb) video card

I'm not sure on what the make/model of your TV is, but most likely the problem is your TV probably has difficulty accepting PC resolutions. If that's the case, you would need a transcoder.

I bought a similar cable (VGA to composite) with hopes I could use that to watch videos on my TV. However, I tried everything and still couldn't get anything, so I'm pretty sure my video card, nVidia GeForce Go 7400, doesn't support TV out through VGA. What I ended up getting was this:

It takes a little while to figure out how to use, but the picture quality was acceptable for watching movies.

I did a bit more googling and found a piece of software called Powerstrip and hope that it's going to do the trick. Why do I need a transcoder anyways? I thought VGA itself is analog and is fully compatible with component. I tried finding a vid card with built-in component, but I couldn't find one in Canada. Also, the only transcoder with component out I found was for $300 on Tigerdirect.
