    Hello,
    I'm afraid my original sata hdd is damaged: bad noises and sometimes it halts. I would like to change it with a SSD Hdd. Would you suggest me a specific one for the Sony Vaio VPCF12M? If any of you has already tested one on Vaio notebooks, please let me know.
    Thanks for your time.

    Just get a SSD with good performance and decent capacity/price. There are many out there. Personally, I'm partial to Intel and Crucial drives, but you could get a Sandisk and so on. I've been out fo the current SSD game, but I'm certain our members will have good suggestions. As with anything SATA, the device you plug your drive into shouldn't matter.

    And it's not called solid state hdd!!

    HDD = Hard Disk Drive
    SSD = Solid State Drive

    There isn't anything called a Solid State HDD

    Is this SATA II or SATA III connector in the Vaio?

    Crucial MX100 light usage - value
    SanDisk Extreme Pro heavy usage, or light - little more money.

    480GB or above preferable

    Thanks everybody for your answers and suggestions.
    @Bullrun: sata II and sata III connectors are physically different? My Vaio is 4 years old. Do you think the Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB Sata III could be a good choice? And the Crucial MX200 or M550?

    @Matrix Leader6: thanks for the right distinction. Words are important, so let's use them rightfully. thanks.

    Avoid the EVO like the plague! buy any MLC NAND based SSD and you should be good like the SanDisk Extreme PRO for best performance consistency in the long run or Crucial MX100 or Crucial MX200 for the best bang for your buck. Avoid Samsung generally they don't honor their international warranty unless you send the SSD to the US and they are known for releasing crappy firmwares like the latest firmware for the 850 PRO which made its performance decrease drastically since 4 months and still no updated firmware to fix that. Stay away from Samsung, was the best company, now it's the worst, literally.

    Ok, I'll stay away from Samsung!
    The Crucial M550 (which I mentioned) is discontinued (legacy product).
    If I'm not wrong there's no reason for me to buy the Crucial MX200: it has the M.2 interface and my notebook would not support that speed (10Gb/s). Actually, I don't even know if the M.2 is a different type of form factor than the Sata.
    The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD 480GB is a little bit expensive than the Crucial MX100: does it worth the price?
    I really thank you for your time: I'd be lost without your suggestions.

    It's worth the price in the long run when it comes to performance consistency, as in, it would give you the same speed always and doesn't deteriorate with time.

    Here is a Crucial MX200 500GB 2.5"

    There are both M2 and 2.5" versions of it so pick the 2.5" or the MX100 I have that in my wife's laptop and believe me for the price, nothing beats it, super fast and reliable. Got hers for $210 USD from Dubai about 6 months ago, should be cheaper now

    I would get the Sandisk if you can afford it.. Can't go wrong with MX100.. @Matrix Leader6 I would avoid MX200.. @octiceps says that the MX200 is worse then MX100 and BX100 would be more preferable compared to it...

    thanks for this mate, MX200 scrapped off my recommendation list.

    Super SSD = SanDisk Extreme PRO FTW
    Budget yet still very decent performance SSD = Crucial MX100
