Is it possible to update the CPU on a HP zt3000 laptop that is current running a Pentium M 1.8 ghz processor to a faster one? Anything that is faster that the one I am currently using would be better. Thanks. Also FYI, I already have my laptop disassembled since I had solder the DC jack together, so I thought might as well do some upgrading.

    Thanks

You can, Pentium-Ms go up above 2GHz but it really won't be worth it, the difference won't be worth the cost. 2GHz+ P-Ms tend to be very expensive.

Other good upgrades are RAM and a faster hard disk.

There are only two compatable Pentium M's you can use. The 755 2Ghz or the 765 2.10Ghz. You're limited to these because of your laptop's 400Mhz FSB.

BTW, I took a look and if you have the stock HDD it's only a 4200rpm one. You'd see a better performance increase swapping your hard drive for a 5400rpm or 7200rpm model. Then upgrading ram to at least 1Gig. Then if it's still in the budget, the processor.

Brand name is not so important with RAM just make sure to buy from a reputable retailer and get a lifetime warranty RAM deals on NBR is a good place all have the warranty, newegg.com is also good.

I like newegg because of the reviews. It helps you figure out what you're getting before you buy.
