I currently own a Dell Inspiron 1520 with a 160gb Fujitsu 5400rpm drive. I am in need of more space, however, and I'm looking to upgrade to a 320gb 7200rpm drive. Last week, I purchased a Western Digital WD3200BJKT and installed it in my system. It was unbearably loud and made a "click" sound every 20 seconds, even after I used hdparm to try and fix the noise.

So I'm looking for a 320gb 7200rpm drive that will not be too loud. After my poor experience with the WD drive, I am considering other brands. I have narrowed it down to a few on Newegg, but I need help choosing the best one. I am not looking for pure performance in a drive, but rather reliability and low noise levels.

Those are the ones I saw on Newegg. If anyone knows of any other options, please post them. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

My WD3200BEKT emits no noise at all. Anyway I would recommend the 7k320 it has the best mix of reliability and speed of the 3 drives you listed.

I had the exact same problem with my new WD HD, get quietHDD and disable HDD APM, sorted the noise out for me.

Between those three drives I'd pick the Fujitsu MHZ2320BJ-G2 because it's the fastest 7200rpm drive Laptopmag ever tested.
