    Hi

Anyone have any idea if it is possible to upgrade the processor on an HP dv5094EA?

    It currently runs a Turion 64 ML-37 (2ghz), but I'd like a ML-40/44 - something more powerful.

    Can it be done?

    Thanks guys...

There shouldnt be any problems with upgrading from a lower speed Turion to a higher speed one. Search through HP.com for the service manual for the dv5000z, it should list the steps to access the cpu.

upgrading the cpu voids the warranty and in your case you will only get a minor speed improvement, if noticeable at all. Faster HDD will get you greater performance boost.

WATCH THE TEMPERATURE!... dont do AWs mistake and just swap whatever fits, the fans and heatsink you got has a certain rating and if you go over youll be bbqing a cpl grand go to amds website and checkup the heatratings (if you cant find that comparable wattages will have comparable heat signatures amongst a family of processors)

Thanks for your input - much appreciated.

I'm looking to do audio (not video) editing on the machine - is a 2GB processor with 1Gb RAM and 100Gb Hard Drive powerful enough do you think?

In your case I would suggest upgrading to a 7200rpm HDD and max out the RAM to 2GB before trying any cpu upgrade. The ML 37 is fairly powerful enough for most tasks.

    Hi there

I purchase the DV5094EA the other day and i am extemely impressed with it. I will be giving a full review shortly.

I did buy it with the intention of upgrading the hard drive at some stage.

1 - Does anybody know where i would buy the Hard drive from
2 - how much it would cost.
3 - is it hard to do.
4 - Would this invlidate the warranty.
5 - And lastly in terms of percentage what improvements would i see.

I am wondering the same thing, but I have a dv5000z, with the AMD Turion 64 ML-34, and want to go to the ML-40-ML-44, I am planning on replacing my 4200rpm hard drive with a 7200rpm 160gb drive. I have the max amount of RAM, so I would like a more power to run solidworks. Does anyone think it would be worth the $300 for the new processor???
