    Hey Guys,

Ok i had a couple questions.

    1. Does upgrading hardware on a laptop after purchase void you warranty with dell, gateway, hp and sony??

    2. And which components in a laptop are easily upgraded??? processor, memory, harddisk, graphics???

    3. If WiMax come out and proves to be several steps above the current technology... Will I be able to upgrade that on a laptop internally???

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi

First off you don't have a couple of questions, you have 3 :) to answer your questions:

    1. I think it does, not 100% on that but I would of thought it would.

    2. As I've just found out with wanting to upgrade my laptop's processor it's going to be a hell of a trip to do. I'm not sure whether I'm going to risk it now :s generally the easiest parts to upgrade in a laptop are the wireless module, hard drive and memory.

    3. WiMax probably won't appear for a while so if you get a laptop now I doubt it will be upgradable really. There might be a few exceptions but really Wi-Fi should tide you over for now.

    1) Usually something simple like a memory upgrade will not void your warranty. More complex upgrades like processors may. Contact your manufacturer to be sure if something voids your warranty.

    2) For stuff like processors, I find it varies from laptop to laptop. On my old Inspiron 500m I only had to remove the keyboard and the heatsink, but on my D830 I'll have to pretty much dismantle the whole thing.

Look for a service manual from your manufacturer's website.

    3) Dunno.

    1. Not everything read 2.

    2.
Will not void: hdd, ram, wireless card.
Will void: CPU, (probably GPU if its upgradeable which 99% of notebook's are not)

    3. Probably not, you can probably use a expresscard or PCMCIA card.
