My laptop is the dv9335nr with a t5300. It has a GeForce Go 7600.

I want to be able to upgrade it to something over 2.0 GHz so I can play Spore without buying a completely new system (college kid that's strapped for cash).

Please, somebody tell me this is possible (and not too difficult or expensive to do). I'm pretty good with desktop pc upgrades, but kind of rusty, and kind of inexperienced with laptop upgrades (besides ram and the HDD).

You should be able to put a Core 2 Duo socket M CPU in easily. T7200, T7400 and T7600? And an extreme also.

Confirm the CPU is the issue not GPU? I am not a gamer anymore so cannot help. But suspect not CPU issue. Go 7600 needing 2Ghz C2D seams unbalanced? But I don't know.

    actually a T5300 is a SOCKET M CPU,,,
so you would have to use a
    T7200, T7400, or T7600....

and really the T7600 is way over priced... the T7200 is best for the money IMO

    Aren't those CPUs Socket P, not M (e.g. T7200, T7400, T7600)?

EDIT: Someone beat me to it.

I couldn't find the recommended requirements for Spore anywhere; are you sure that the T5300 wouldn't be up to it? Most dual-core CPUs nowadays are powerful enough to meet the recommended requirements for almost any game.

The minimum requirements of Spore are:
    Windows Vista
2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    768 MB RAM
A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
At least 6 GB of hard drive space

I got it to play the first time, but I had to ctrl+alt+delete it every time a new menu or screen popped up, bc it would freeze. When it was playing the framerate was okay, but I think it was the the processor which caused my problems, and now I can't play it at all past the loading screens, so I'd like to upgrade my processor to at least the minimum requirements.

And do you know how easy it is to access the cpu and swap it out on a dv9335nr?

I messed up but back on my game! A 2Ghz P4 is below your current CPU so upgrading will not help. I feel on! My game is back? How did I do fella's?

I don't think there is any way of knowing whether its the CPU, given only the minimum requirements; if the recommended requirements for the CPU turn out to be less demanding than your current CPU, you will have wasted considerable time and money. Just want to point this out.

Any Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual Core will run Spore without any problems. Freezing and crashing are not signs of a slow CPU.

So you're sure my core 2 duo will run it even if it isn't 2GHz?

But I did encourage you to buy the wrong CPU's? So well?

I am sure the driver is the problem here and not your CPU or GPU

I went to HP's site for my laptop and my driver seemed to be up to date, and I also tried to update driver through Device Manager, and it said I have the most current driver. Would that site naton posted have a driver that would be more recent/better?

The drivers that manufacturers provide are usually very poor. For Nvidia drivers, try the latest from www.laptopvideo2go.com.

And will the latest Vista 64 bit driver listed on that site work for my card? Is it a one size fits all kind of thing?

^ Yes, thats correct; Nvidia uses a unified driver architecture. It uses a one size fits all scheme.

Okay, nevermind, I found a tutorial on the site about what to do with the drivers. Thanks a lot to all of you for your help. I'm going to try it out and post back about my results.

Midnite, just a word of advice in these matters - Core 2 Duos are clock-for-clock faster than a Pentium 4 due to the different architecture.
So your 1.73 GHz should be more than fast enough for Spore.

Okay thanks everybody. It's working perfectly now. All it needed was updated drivers. Greatly appreciate it.
