I currently own an HP Elitebook 8470p, with an i5-3320m CPU. A friend of mine is selling his broken Probook 6470p parts, including his i7-3450m. I can get it for a good price, but is it compatible with my laptop?

I already checked and they have the same socket, but I'm not sure if there would be any other compatibility issues. Will it work?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the Core i7-3540M rather than the 3450M which is a Core i5? If so then I don't see why not since HP specifies the Core i7-3540M in the 8470p as an option, therefore it should be a straightforward swap since the BIOS is already adapted to this processor.

Yep, I meant the 3540m. I think I'm gonna try and see if it works, my main concern was if cooling would be enough, but I just saw my friend's laptop and its the same cooling system.

Well, it's not like you're changing TDP like you would by going to a 45W quad core i7.

I agree - HP offered the notebook with that CPU; there shouldn't be any compatibility issues.

As an FYI - the difference between those CPU's won't be all that noticeable, but if you can get it for a good price, why not.

I have the same thing here

I have HP Elitebook 8470p with Core i5 - 3320M and a friend of mine is selling a very cheap HP Pavilion G6 which has a Core i7 - 3632QM and I'm thinking of switching processors .!!

it's a Quad-Core CPU with also the Elitebook has an AMD Radeon HD 7570M which "I think" consumes More power than the regular Intel HD Graphics which is Also disabled in the recent Elitebooks 8460p and 8470p

Will the 3630QM work on the Elitebook 8470p ?

Also the other hp "The Pavilion G6" will it work fine with the Corei5 - 3320M

note, Both processors has the Same TDP of 35w and Same Lithography of 22nm
