I really believe the both is very good. i'm using a 80GB Hitachi one. It is very good and give me excellent job. Hitachi is a first one to make a 2.5" 7200rpm HD'd brand, Seagate should have a 5 years warranty. If your budget can afford it, go for Seagate should be your final decision.

The Hatichi 7K100 7200 rpm drive blows the doors off a 4200 rpm drive. It's bandwidth is almost 2x that a 4200rpm. I have it and love it. No way I will buy another Notebook with out it. The Hitachi is faster than the seagate. It will consume about 100ma (.1 amps) more than a 4200. Buy your productivity will go up 80%. That is about the time you speed waiting on the HD compaired to a 7200.

Which HP nc model is it. Hp usually have service manuals on their website and it should go into the details of accessing any internal part of your laptop.

For most laptops, this is how its done:
    1. Shut down laptop, remove battery and ac plug
    2. Remove 2 screws holding cover for hdd
    3. Pull out the hard drive
    4. If it has a metal case, remove it and install on new drive
    5. Plug in new drive
    6. Screw back cover and plug in the battery.
