    Hello everybody,

I have a problem with my laptop and I hope you can help me; this forum is probably my last hope :)

I have a Toshiba Satellite A10 pro with a Celeron @ 2.2 GHz (core Northwood, 256Kb Cache) that started giving me hard time. Basically the cpu is overheating even if the processor is in idle mode.

I decided to buy a new cpu (damn, it's so cheap in US) and I opted for an Intel P4 Mobile 400MHz 512KB L2 478pin @ 2.0GHz (core Northwood).

I thought the main problem was the Celeron but the same is happening with the Pentium M. I have to keep it at 1.2GHz (like it was running on batteries; speedstep's speed) otherwise it gets cooked if running at default speed. Now at 1.2GHz the temperature is always at around 50 C (a bit too high).

I suspect the mainboard is giving me hard time. I fear it's overvolting the cpu...I don't see any other reason why it's behaving in this way (it's all cleaned up; no dust and rubbish that may prevent a good heath dissipation).

I've seen loads of thread reporting how to undervolt cpus but this particular model does not seem to be compatable with any available software. I don't fancy the pin-mod alternative but if necessary I can start playing with the Celeron and see if it works.

I have no words of wisdom; thanks for your help.

You cant undervolt pentium4 M's. I have a 2.0Ghz P4m in my dell 8500, and the cpu temps usually ran between 100 and 120, and maxed around 135F. My temos came from I8KFANGUI.
Did you reapply thermal paste after you swapped processors?
