I bought a few Samsung SSDs via eBay/Amazon and had them shipped to Dubai thinking Samsung has international warranty.....

so now I sold an 840 EVO 1TB and just wanted to provide the guy with Samsung's number if he ever runs into a problem in the future for his warranty....

The call center of Samsung gave me the number of their outsourced workshop who told me they do not support SSDs, only TVs, laptops, refrgiratros, etc.

So I called the call center back explaining this then the call center agent checked with his superior then told me I need to contact Samsung USA and ask them how to claim for warranty when needed.......

this is VERY unprofessional......to me, Samsung is Samsung, their offices worldwide whould be able to help with any product for Samsung.....

now how do I contact Samsung USA? do they have an email anyone can help me with? They should provide us Samsung loyal customers with a way to claim for warranty when needed.......

if I can't find a solution for this....my next SSDs will be Sandisk Extreme Pro or Crucial

It is strange guarantee schemes Samsung has. There was also another in a different forum who thought it was weird he could not get guarantee on his ssd when he ordered through Amazon. Here's warranty diagrams at Samsung: Samsung SSD Warranty | Samsung SSD

I just contacted Samsung via their online chat support......

At present we at Live Chat are not handling the product you have as it requires special training and expertise. We do have dedicated support for this product. You can reach Total Tech solution by calling: 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864) and then press option 1 for Total Tech Solution between 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday EST.

    1-800-726-7864

    1 (English)

    1 (Consumer)

    5 (PC)

    5 (Drives and memory)

    1 (Solid State Drive)

They want me to call the US as there is no local support! So much for international warranty!

If I had to send the SSD to the US and bear the shipping cost back, it would be more expensive than buying a brand new SSD

this is the last Samsung SSD I will buy

Samsung's warranty's always been a joke.. I've found their products to be very unreliable and their warranties to be nonsencial.. My S3 had something faulty and always overheated/battery drained like nothing and they wanted me to send it in to repair and make me lose my phone for weeks... Apple would have just replaced it.. They're just a fail... I feel sorry for you but like you said, next time don't buy Samsuck SSD's...

Just got an official reply from SAMSUNG via email telling me that if the call center agent didn't even know what an SSD is, how do I expect them to repair it????????

WOW! I am just astonished at the level of service from Samsung!

Even though the issue is concerning SSDs, no more TVs, phones, or anything made by Samsung for me!

Yeah so basically the 2000 USD or so I spent on their SSDs are now in a countdown until the SSD's death.....so much for 10 year or heck even 5 year international warranty heh?

The terms and conditions, whats stated on the box, doesn't matter, it all comes down to how they treat you when you actually need them. Although I have no problem with my SSDs at the moment, I was just casually asking how would one go about claiming for warranty if ever an issue arises as customers that I sell these SSDs to sometimes ask....and there's the shock from the Koreans!

I'm gonna email SanDisk and Crucial now to see how do they deal with this.....to see what my next SSD(s) will be

I emailed Crucial and SanDisk asking them about how they treat warranty in Dubai for items purchased from the US

    let's see what they say

If you are making a business of supplying SSDs to others then it is prudent to sort out these aspects before you start.

Samsung don't appear to have SSD service centres in every country (their UK SSD warranty statement gives a contact in the Netherlands). What is the contact given in the Arabic version of the SSD warranty statement?

That basically states that you are entitled to a warranty as long as you have not exceeded the time limit (ie. 5 year, 10 years, or so) and have not exceeded the TBs written as per each model.

thank you for that document, I will call Samsung in Dubai and tell them how are they saying that they will not honor my warranty when they state on their website that it has a warranty!

EDIT: nope, no luck, they said that is a general warranty document but they don't have the parts or tech to support them, thus I have to send it to the USA!

As I said, this is the last Samsung SSD I will buy

I doubt that any other SSD manufacturer has the required facilities in the Middle East region.

However, if Samsung are selling SSDs in the region via their distribution system then they should have arrangements for returning defective products via that system for repair / replacement.

Some of test pages that tests these products should warn people about the useless warranty the manufacturers brag about. These warranties do not apply to everyone, so they should give warnings about this. If these manufacturers brag about an international warranty, then they should be real. Many people buy a product that advertises with such a guarantee becomes cheated.

Unfortunately, I'm sure you be disappointed with other manufacturers too, the level of SSD after sales service you are looking for can only come from the likes of Intel.

Very good point, I always read reviews, read about the warranty, and buy based on that, the reviewers should really specify in basic layman terms where the warranty is valid and its limitation before bragging about a product's 10 year warranty or so

Nope, just got an Email from SandDisk......they do not burn the customer like Samsung.....

at least u can ship it to the nearest depot, and at least they don't tell you "you bought it from the USA, you are burned, bye bye"

We would like to confirm that the warranty of SanDisk products is indeed valid worldwide, however in case of a replacement the product will have to be shipped to our depot at your own cost. You will not be requested to ship it to the United States but to a depot closest to you.

I completely agree that all warranty as advertised as international, to be valid worldwide. All manufacturers who brag about international warranty shall keep their promises. Otherwise it's a lie. Why write that their products have an international warranty on their packaging and website if it is not valid? This is what I call to fool people.

@Ferris23: You have now established that SSD warranties may involve shipping the problem device to somewhere with the technical capability to investigate. There is a warranty provided you can jump the shipping hurdle.

Your next task is to go through the same exercise with hard drive manufacturers and find out how many of those have service facilities in the UAE.

I presume you never encountered the Sandisk U100 which could temporarily freeze a running computer (more here).

Next step is, I will contact the stores that sell Crucial and SanDisk SSDs here and ask them through which service center does the warranty get honored and then call that service center and see if they will help with an SSD bought from the US. If they do, then that would save me the time and money to ship it to the nearest depot as they mentioned the email. Samsung SSDs are a diff. matter here since they don't even sell em in Dubai. Even though Dubai is a modern city, when it comes to IT products, they get the cheapest stuff that sells fast. not the high performance ones.

Is there no Samsung's premium ssd drives sold in Dubai? Not once in small data stores? I have understood it so, that many have good income in Dubai. At least those who are born and raised there, with serious jobs.

The underlying problem is that Dubai is a big wholesale market for the region and many of the people who go there to stock up with products to resell in other countries are are only looking at the price and haven't a clue about the quality.

Not denying that they don't have their own problems but the Extreme II/Extreme Pro are top notch unlike Samsung's 840 Evo...

Yes, because it also contains benchmark results and other comments about the U100 to compare with the m4.

Would you want an SSD for which CDM measures a 4kQD32 performance at 7MB/s?

You can try to contact Corsair also, In UAE service support sucks, I'm having transcend pen drive life time warranty and purchase from the India. when I ask transcend for authorize service centre they said go to the shop from you purchase your pen drive may be they will charge you for that. Well I'm using 830 is pretty reliable.
