    Hi all,

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section of this forum so apologies if I'm not. My girlfriend bought be a USB HD tuner for my laptop as a present - AVL680HD. It's a neat little gadget and I'd been having no problems using it with my laptop, until today.

I've added a second monitor for dual display and now I'm having issues. After an arbitrary time (it could be 10 minutes, it could be an hour) the "USB disconnected" noise plays and suddenly my laptop and windows media player no longer recognise my tuner. I have to disconnect the tuner, reset my laptop, reset the USB hub in device manager, and then finally reconnect the tuner.

What on earth could be causing this problem? Any suggestions at all would be helpful! It's driving me insane. Thank you in advance.

Have you checked the device manager to see if there's any warnings? also check your error logs (there may possibly be something useful for other members of this forum that could help you out)

    Thank you for the response!

At the moment there doesn't appear to be any warnings with the USB tuner connected. I assume if there were any related warnings they'd be listed under either "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Universal Serial Bus controllers"?

How to I bring up an error log?

Thanks again for your help. The whole point of me purchasing a new, larger monitor was to take advantage of my USB HD tuner!

I spoke to soon. After disconnecting my tuner, rebooting my laptop, and then reconnecting my tuner I've received an error while Vista automatically attempted to install/update the drivers. I then reinstalled the drivers via the provided installation CD but, as usual, within a short while the device suddenly stopped working and when I check my device manager Vista doesn't even recognise the tuner is connected (despite it being attached to the USB port).

I've visited AVLabs' site and they don't appear to have any updated driver support for the tuner either.

I ended up working out what the problem was. It seems my HD tuner was conflicting with my bluetooth mouse/keyboard combo (that was paired to my laptop's onboard bluetooth receiver). Whenever my bluetooth mouse and keyboard are paired to my laptop's bluetooth radio, my tuner will inevitably cut out. Fortunately my bluetooth mouse/keyboard combo came with a bluetooth USB hub which I've now got connected to a USB slot in my second monitor. My setup now works with no trouble.

I hope this helps someone out someday!
