I'd like to find a portable RAID drive that can accept my current HDs. I want to swap out my current HDs and replace them with an SSD as my primary boot drive. I'd hoped I could put my current twin Hitachis to use as storage drives for HD video. Does anyone know if such an animal exists?

Also,I'm not entirely sure of which SSD is most practical at this juncture, but my current c drive hold approximately 100GB, so I'm guessing an amount around that should be sufficient? Anyway, I have a budget of $400 on the whole package. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean the Cavalry, then no, the Cavalry dock doesn't appear to support RAID. The Zalman dock does, though.

JBOD isn't RAID, though. JBOD is "Just (a) Bunch Of Disks", which means the drives are separate.

    Serial ATA Raid Levels?

Edit; Oh, I get it now it makes only JBOD, misread it and it makes both drives one large partition..........

The Zalman certainly appears a contender, but the round plastic enclosure seems a bit quirky, and it got a "not recommended" rating for some reason? Anyway, at least it comes with all the necessary cables.

While I can't say I've tried it the reviewer was upset because he could only manage to get 200 MB/s from the raid. I'd say a Raid0 on those two drives would not yeild much more than that so it shouldn't be that much of an issue for you.

Since it is a dock though and not an enclosure not sure if that would effect you..........
