    Dear all,

I have a Toshiba P200D-11L laptop and I de-install Windows Vista from it. For about 6 months I have Windows XP on it and in the last 3 weeks, I have some problems of Overheating and unexpected shut down, which are very dangerous for my laptop.

What do you suggest me to do? Do I have to install any additional driver?

Thank you very much in advance.

    1) Run Hwmonitor to check that laptop is overheating; please post the results.
    2) Have you cleaned out the computer recently for dust and debris? Use a can of compressed air and a vacuum cleaner.

    Good morning!

The problem persists and after the cleaning up yestreday, the laptop opens the Windows and after a few minutes it shuts down!

Do I have a problem in my Operating System? In laptop's motherboard?

Thank you very much in advance.

Maybe update your drivers on the processor?

Ok, this is odd because your GPU temps are very normal, while your CPU is overheating like mad. Can you check your power settings under Vista to make sure that you aren't running in performance mode or anything?

If that isn't the problem, then you might want to consider getting the unit repaired, although you could undervolt, buy a cooling pad, etc; the problem with the latter course of action is that the laptop shouldn't be overheating to begin with.

How did you cleaned the laptop? Did you opened it up and sprayed compressed air on the fan heatsink fins?

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for your replies. I didn't open the laptop for cleaning it. I used a vacuum cleaner and I tried to get any dust from it. As I wrote you above, I am using MS Win XP SP3 right now. I am thinking of installing MS Vista again in order to see if XP have the problem.

    What do you suggest?

I'd suggest opening your laptop from the inside and make sure there are no clogged particles on the fan exhausts.
Really the OS does not make a difference considering the CPU underclocks when not needed meaning it's not running at full speed (Adaptative Mode).
And consider those AMD processors in my opinion tend to rend a hell lot hot than Intel counterparts, my CPU barely reaches 55C under load (undervolted that is).

Download you laptop hardware maintenance manual, there should be the dissasembly instructions to get access to the fan/heatsink. In Lenovo's is quite easy, I dunno about Toshiba's (that's a reason I love Thinkpads)
