    Hi,
My Toshiba Satellite M70's harddrive is dying. The machine came with a 80G PATA drive but I'm thinking of replacing it with a 160G SATA drive. Wondering if anyone has done it and if there are any compatability problems? Thanks!

You need to make sure that the M70 can take an SATA hard drive interface; which I don't think that it does. It probably takes ATA-6.

How do I know if it takes a SATA interface? Or at least, even if it doesn't get max speed, it can at least run at the speed of the original HD?

PATA is the same as ATA-6, ATA-5, ATA-4 etc. But SATA (the same as ATA-7 or ATA150) has different connection, and it will not work on PATA.
