    Hi
I have taken brand new HP Special Edition Laptop.
It has 320 GB Toshiba 5400 RPM hard drive, since very first day the hard drive giving scratching noise (kirrrrrrr) .
I am very frustrated , can any one tell me what should i do?
When i talked to HP Technical support then they are saying its read write sensor is damaged and need to change hard drive.

Well as i noticed in other's HP notebook then i found same noise is coming.

Please let me know if anybody knows that what is the role of Hard drive's sensor ? Will it affect my hard drive or notebook?

Disable HDD Indexing or the Windows Search service....
If your HDD supports AAM, download HD Tune and reduce AAM to 'low noise'....
If HP are willing to change the HDD, then let 'em do it..!!

Your hard drive is going to die. Backup everything useful, while you can, and send it in for replacement.

Like Mike said, your backing up your data is very important. Don't worry about anything else. ;)

Since Toshiba does not provide HDD diagnostic utilities, you could run Active SMART and see what it reports. The SMART data are the HDD's internal monitoring system.
