    Good Day to all,

I just got one used laptop, for 180€, in great condition ,like it was inside the box.

    The specifications are :
[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    It came,with 4GB RAM so i stick another 4GB ,and now i total have 8GB DDR3.
I changed the HDD to SSD Samsung 1st generation, which i had laying around.
I changed the thermal compound to Arctic Cooling Silver 5, which reduced the celsius even more.

Now, my next thought is to upgrade the CPU.
As far as i know the HM 65 Chipset can receive up to 2630QM i7 ,am i correct ?
Is there by any way , or any other suggestion ?

In the future, the laptop will take place also some heating modification with copper ...

    See:

The multi threaded score is ~76% better for the QC cpu, but it also takes a slight hit in single threaded performance and needs ~29% more thermal wattage too.

Imo, I say enjoy what you have done to the system already.

What workloads are expected of this system? I would think that the 'upgrade' to an i7 QC is more of a side grade when all aspects are considered.

The i5 that you have is already a potent enough cpu for normal workflows. Unless the i7 QC's enhanced multi threaded performance is needed (above all else), it is not a necessary upgrade at all.

The RAM and SSD that you have upgraded gave you 90%+ of the increased performance possible for day to day tasks. If you have also upgraded to Win10x64Pro, you will gain additional functionality too.

If you don't need to consistently push (over time) the notebook to it's maximum, the i7 QC will only make the system louder, hotter, and give less battery life vs. what you already have. Not to mention needing a higher amperage power supply too.

    Good luck.

    Thank you for your help.
It runs dual VMs , because i am studying Linux/Redhat . And a lot of background programs.
I don't care about the battery life.
About the celsius /temperature i don't afraid because i have coolermaster notepal u3 plus , with moveable fans. So i can get few degrees down ,and also , good thermal paste.

I think that the next upgrade for :
    16GB Kingston KVR16S11K2/16 + i7 2630QM (or higher if i find cheap) .
    Will be a good upgrade.

    Don't you think also ?

With dual VM's, the QC makes sense, of course.

16GB RAM makes even more sense. :)

I'm pretty sure that the i5 won't support 16GB RAM (try it if you can, first), but the i7 should.

If the higher capacity RAM is supported with the i5, I think that will be all you need for the study of Linux/Redhat and the SSD you already have.

Υeah as i know the laptop doesnt have memmory controller so the CPU is the limit.
The i7 has the limit of 16GB ,but the i5 doesn't.
