The old Arima/Gateway W730 Overheat Problem

Hi everyone,

First of all many thanks for everyones help on advising on what HDD to get for the 7200 with Seagate and Hitachi. I got the Seagate and it seems to be very good. A lot quieter and smoother than my old dead Toshiba 5400.

I now believe that my Toshiba shat itself because it was getting way too hot. I was having the problem that I head read in the past in these forums (I think it was these forums) about the overheating of CPU problems of the Arima W730 and I think Gateway 6800.

I had fixed the problem for 5-7 months and I got the same issue. Redid it and lasted for two weeks. It was on and off and was switching off on me and getting quite hot.

So then the HDD failed and its been a month since I have had the ntoebook running. It is very hot and the Seagate gets so so hot. I think the CPU is spreading the heat throughout the whole notebook.

So what is the best way to deal with trhis problem? I think this notebook has changed and the data on this problem cannot be found to see how people got over it. All I have done is clean the thermal grease off the cpu and reapplied it. I cleaned it first by using a cloth but using no chemicals.

I also cannot screw in one of the CPU fan screws as it wont go in but it looks secure and seated down well.

Can anyone please help me? I dont want to screw this HDD as I barely had the money to buy it in the first place.
