    what exactly does it mean when it flashes/stays on? o_O i've always been curious to this and well havne't found an answer yet or atleast well haven't seen one in any of the things i've happened across. This is probably a completely newbish question to ask. But i am curious to what it is/does.

    the one by the NumLock Key on my Asus G50Vt. or on my old compaq it was on the front beside the power led thingy that showed it was charging.

    Just means the computer is reading or writing to the hard-disk drive.

    It's a lot more significant for removable drives like floppy or CD/DVD so that you don't remove the disk when the computer needs it.
