I've been reading posts/articles concerning "UNDERVOLTING" for days now, 'cause I need to get my CPU temps down. The general consensus seems to be that you can NOT undervolt an Intel i3 mobile processor. Yet I read where people are doing it! They don't mention how, though.

I followed the "undervolting guide" until I installed "RMclock" and found out it wasn't compatiple (no advanced settings) with my i3-380m. My searching for an alternative led me to 'ThrottleStop'.

It was recommended on a forum as the best 'up to date' alternative to RMclock. But on second page of the 'ThrottleStop Guide' it is stated..."Voltage can't be adjusted on Core i CPU's". So my questions:

    1) Can 'ThrottleStop" be used to lower my CPU voltages or not?

    2) If it can't, can it be used in some other way to get my MAX temps down?

    3) If so how (please explain)?

    4) If so, can it be done in a way that doesn't lower my performance... just like undervolting did on the older CPU's?

    5) If none of the above will work to get my max temps down, is there some other process that I can employ internally (other than a bigger fan or using a cooler pad)?...... Cause look at my temp's below using PRIME 95 for a few minutes !! HELP !!!

*note* I've already taken my fan and discharge vent out and cleaned them real good. That helped alot as I was idling before in the high 50's c. thermal test 1.png test 2.png program 2.png

Intel has added under volting back to their most recent 4th Generation Core i Haswell CPUs. I do not know any way to under volt any of the early Core i processors. ThrottleStop can NOT be used to under volt your Core i3-380M.

Have you completely taken your laptop apart and thoroughly cleaned it? Some laptops are poorly designed and for maximum performance, they require regular maintenance. Cleaning the heatsink and fan with compressed air is basic maintenance. If this does not significantly lower your core temperatures then you need to remove the heatsink and you will need to re-do the thermal paste.

The only thing that you can do with ThrottleStop is you can use it to lower the speed and performance of your CPU so it puts out less heat. It makes a lot more sense to properly clean your laptop so you can use it at its Intel rated speed without having to worry about it overheating.
